VOCA is all about helping kids to heal.

Opening doors to bright futures for kids

What is the Victims of Child Abuse Program (VOCA)?pinwheelChildren, Youth, and Family Services’ VOCA program provides free direct outpatient counseling to children who have been victims of abuse or neglect as well as to their non-abusing family members including siblings, and parents/guardians. Counseling services are also available for children living in homes where domestic violence has taken place.  VOCA Treatment Specialists help children to cope with the trauma of abuse and move forward successfully.  Treatment specialists also work to help families learn ways to support the child at home as well as strengthen and implement safety measures to prevent the re-occurrence of trauma in the future.

Children ages 18 & under who live in Charlottesville or Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Greene counties are eligible for services.  A CPS or police report must have been filed at some point in order to qualify for counseling services but it is not necessary that the report be founded or a case found guilty.

One of our counselors is available to conduct sessions in the following counties one day each week: Fluvanna, Nelson, Greene, and Louisa.  Her office is based out of each county’s department of social services office.  If you are from one of these counties let us know if you would prefer to have sessions take place closer to home and we will do our best to coordinate that.

VOCA Treatment Specialists are available to conduct individual and family counseling sessions, accompany the child to court if needed, create a specific and individualized treatment plan to best meet the needs of the child, and collaborate with other agencies to help the child’s healing process when appropriate.

All VOCA services are provided free of charge.

This project is supported by grant # 09-A5943DV09 through the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Victims of Crime Act, and the VOCA Recovery Act Victim Assistance Grant SVC-09-061
